Chiba too far from Tokyo (for defence show)

MAST Asia 2019’s committee wash-up meeting has concluded that Makuhari Messe in Chiba is too far from government and defence HQs in Tokyo to give participants sufficient visiting time. The venue’s remoteness is a disincentive for key attendees.

Over three days, nearly 4,000 participants from over 40 countries took part in MAST Asia 2019 (including some 300+ VVIPs).

With 60–90 minutes travel each way between central Tokyo and Chiba, compounded with unexpected duties recalling some officials back to Tokyo and numerous bilateral talks taking place downtown, at times the exhibition seemed quieter than in 2017.

Next year’s Japan Defense/MAST Asia is scheduled for Metropolitan Tokyo (Shinagawa, 2–4 November 2020), just 10 minutes from most Japanese military/government offices, and fast direct train access to/from Japanese and US naval bases in Yokosuka.

Closer coordination with domestic and international VIPs’ itineraries will keep all networking/meetings close/onsite, meaning a more effective event for all. Event sponsors will – for the first time – be offered confirmed 15/20 minute meetings with VIPs in their own B2B/B2G meeting rooms (included in sponsorship).
